Newcastle visit Norton for tough pre-season encounter

Match Preview: Norton and Stockton Ancients Ladies vs Newcastle United Women- Tuesday 25th July 2023, 7:30pm

Tomorrow (25th July) evening will see Chris Burton’s side face their toughest test of the pre-season campaign to date as they welcome Tier 3 professional outfit Newcastle United Women to Norton Sports Complex.

Norton have played two games so far coming away with a 5-2 win over Tier 5 Redcar Town on the road, before drawing on home turf against Spennymoor Town who have been promoted to Tier 5 this coming season. The game on Tuesday will certainly provide a tough test to the Norton side who competed against Newcastle in Tier 4 last season before their promotion and transition into a fully professional side.

Having made the switch to a professional side, Becky Langley has added several high-profile signings to her ranks during the summer and they will be eager to impress their new manager ahead of the upcoming season. The visitors played the first of their pre-season games on Sunday when they made the trip to follow Tier 3 side Milton Keynes Dons and they got off to a positive start coming away with a 2-1 victory.

In the fixtures last season, Newcastle took 6 points with a 4-0 win at Kingston Park in March as Norton conceded early in both the first and second half. While the game at Norton Sports Complex in October was a much tighter affair with a lone Ellie Dobson goal enough to claim the points for the Lady Magpies.
It’s set to be an excellent test for the Norton side against a very strong opponent. We hope to attract as many spectators as possible to watch what is sure to be an exciting evening of football. Tickets are priced at £5 for adults and £2 for U18s, these can be purchased on the night with cash on the gate.
